FAQ

  • Where is the club schedule?
  • The club schedule will appear in this site.
  • How and when can my child apply to Ressu Clubs?
  • The sign-up time for each club is presented in the web pages. The sign-up times are also updated to our Facebook pages and in the beginning of semester we send announcement in Wilma. The sign-up occurs via Ressu Clubs’ Holvi webstore or via co-operators sign-up system. Because of the club tuition/material fee, the children cannot apply a club place for himself/herself. The club tuition/material fee will be paid during the sign-up process through HOLVI web shop.
  • How do I know, if my child has got the club place that I applied for?
  • If you are able to pay the sign-up fee, you child has been enrolled to the club. When there are enough club participants to reach the minimum participation limit, the Club coordinator will send a confirmation e-mail. That e-mail contains further information about the club. Usually it will take several days (up to 2 weeks before the club starts) to get the confirmation e-mail. If there would not be enough participants for the club to reach the minimum participation limit, you will be informed about this also with an e-mail in the end of the application process (before the club should start) and the club fee will be returned to you.
  • How do I pay the club tuition/material fee?
  • The club tuition/material fee will typically be paid during the sign-up process through HOLVI web shop or in the co-operators webpages. Some clubs send the bill directly to your home.
  • My child takes part to the school afternoon care (for 1st to 2nd graders) at Ressun peruskoulu (iltapäiväkerho). Can she or he join Ressu clubs?
  • Yes, he/she can. We co-operate closely with the afternoon care. The afternoon care instructors will announce the starting time of the club (e.g. by shouting in the yard that “Cooking club begins”) and children can continue normally in the afternoon care after the club. Please, note that the afternoon care instructors do not guide every child one by one to the club and it’s not their responsibility to take care of the club participation. It’s parents responsibility to inform the children that the child belongs to some club and remind the child constantly about the club.
  • My child takes part to the “outdoor school afternoon care” (new in the season 2018 ->). Can (s)he join Ressu clubs?
  • No, (s)he cannot! The “outdoor afternoon club” has a lot of activities, field trips etc outside of the school and these activities  cannot be modified according to every child’s club participations.
  • Oops, I signed my child up to club that is during his/her school hours. Can I get a refund?
  • In principal, unfortunately not. When the parent applies for the club place, he/she is committed to pay the club tuition/material fee. We expect parents to know their child’s school schedule, please check that before signing up to any of the clubs! Furthermore, it is not possible to leave school hours a little bit before hand due to the clubs (please, not also the snack time for afternoon care)! The clubs are non-profit nature and Ressu Clubs is committed to pay the club instructor according to a set number of applications. We may make an exception, IF you notify us well before the club starts AND another child takes this place. In that case, we can refund you the club fee – minus administrative costs (2 euros).
  • Can my child try the club first and then decide if he/she joins the club?
  • Unfortunately not. When the parent applies for the club place, he/she is committed to pay the club tuition/material fee, even if the child would not come to the club at all or would not continue the club. Because of the non-profit nature of the clubs, Ressu Clubs is committed to pay the club instructor according to a set number of applications.
  • Is my child insured while he or she is taking part to Ressu clubs?
  • No he/she is not. The Ressu Clubs requires that the child is normally insured (also for possible accidents) before he/she can join the club. The school insurance does not cover club activities.
  • I applied for the club and got a message that the club will not start at all. Why is that?
  • All the clubs will have a minimum participant limit. This time the club did not get enough participants. Each club instructor can define the minimum club group size that suits the content of the club and provides the instructor the income he/she is willing to accept for running the club. Usually the minimum group size varies between 10 and 15 participants. If there are not enough participants in the club your child applied for, Ressu Clubs will refund the club tuition/material fee back to you.
  • The club group was already full when I applied a place for my child, what can I do?
  • With the popular clubs, Ressu Clubs tries to arrange more club groups.
  • What if the club leader gets sick? Is there a substitute teacher to run the club?
  • If the club teacher is unable to instruct the club on a given week, that club meeting is cancelled. We will inform parents by email. Whenever possible changes are also updated through our Facebook group and you can see them in our web pages’ Facebook feed. The cancelled club meeting will be arranged later to replace the missed one. Unfortunately, these cancellations (i.e. sickness) comes usually in very short notice. We are sorry for the inconvenience in these cases! Sometimes, there will be a possibility to organize a substitute instructor (no separate info will be send on that).
  • Are the clubs organized during the school holidays, e.g. fall/spring break, Easter etc?
  • No, there are not. The clubs are organized only on the school days, not on school holidays (e.g fall/spring break, Indepence day, Easter etc).
  • Why the clubs are organized bilingual? Is it possible to organize clubs only with using other language?
  • All clubs by Ressu Clubs are organized bilingual, so that all children can participate on those in spite of their class stream. One target of the Ressu Clubs is to bring children together in spite of class stream. All instructors are able to communicate with both languages. Naturally, the children need to wait patiently while the info is given with the other language. An exception to this are Finnish and English clubs, if those are organized.
  • Do I get a feedback from the club?
  • No, you won’t get an individual feedback from the club and your child won’t get a participation diploma (or similar). In some clubs the instructor will email a short summary of the club in general. The clubs are meant for supporting the children’s leisure time, they are not goal oriented “prep courses”.
  • How does Ressu Clubs support the club activity?
  • Ressu Clubs works for example to find the club instructors to the clubs and other partners (like Annantalo, URSA Astronomical association, Music School Demo, PPJ, Lastenliitto), and takes care of the application process and organizations with the school. Ressu Clubs itself is on a pro bono basis i.e. does not pay anything for the parents, who provide their hours for the use of Ressu Clubs for free.
  • Does Ressu Clubs have income from the club activity?
  • No. Ressu Clubs activity is strictly non-profit activity, all the club tuition/material fees collected are directed to producing the content of the club and running the association. All except of 2 € of each club participants payment will be paid to the instructor while the remaining 2 € will be used to cover other costs that the association has, such as the cost of the web pages and materials for the clubs.
